NNAAC will give us a grant to award this prestigious, nine-month fellowship to an outstanding Arab American who is a college or graduate student or recently graduated.

Title: NNAAC Transformative Leaders Fellowship

Schedule: TBD upon selection of candidate. Start date October 1, 2017; End date in June 29, 2018.
Hours Per Week: 16, or the equivalent of 576 hours over the course of 9 months
Financial Compensation: $3,500 stipend over Nine Months

About Alif Institute: The mission of Alif Institute is to foster the understanding and appreciation of Arab cultures. Alif Institute is a nonprofit, non-religious, and non-political American education, culture, arts, and enrichment center with a focus on Arab cultures and Arab Americans.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Candidate must identify as Arab American.
- Candidate must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Candidate must be a current college junior or senior or recent graduate.
- This is a nine month commitment. Candidate must agree to complete the entire length of the Fellowship.
- Fellows must travel twice during their fellowship. The first time, in October, will be with their cohort to training in Dearborn Michigan. The second time, in Spring 2018, will be to Washington, D.C. to take part in advocacy week. All expenses will be paid by NNAAC. In addition, Fellows will be required to participate in monthly trainings offered electronically by NNAAC. Experience in nonprofits, volunteering, and policy helpful.
- Desire to learn about nonprofit management and leadership skills.
FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION:
- Coordinate traveling exhibit, Windows to the Arab World: From the MidEast to the Southeast:
- Expand exhibit content: Research aspects of Arab culture and work with graphic designer to create educational posters for display.
- Outreach to schools, universities, and civic and government organizations to host the exhibit.
- Present: Help give presentations about the exhibit to host organizations and help recruit/train presenters.
- Fundraise: Research funding opportunities and help write grants.
- Build our library of Arab American stories with StoryCorps:
- Collaborate with the StoryCorps, a national nonprofit organization.
- Solicit local Arab American members of the community to record their personal stories with StoryCorps. Motivate them to preserve and share their heritage.
- Research resources to edit the stories and incorporate them into Alif’s permanent exhibit and traveling exhibit.
- Fundraise to cover expenses for editing the stories.
- Non-Board coordinator for Alif Board of Directors sub-committee:
- Meet with a Board sub-committee every other month.
- Take notes, make recommendations, and liaise with board members about committee business.
- Final presentation:
- Fellow will present a summary of their experience and activities to members of the Alif community at the end of the contract period.
