Learn the basics of shadow puppet making with a master puppeteer, Dr. Nabil Bahgat! All materials included!
Professor Nabil Bahgat is a writer, a theater director, a puppet maker, and head of the Theater Department at Helwan University. Dr. Bahgat founded Wamda Group, a band for Egyptian shadow and puppet shows, in 2003. He directed and produced 36 theatrical works based on shadow puppets and Aragouz, and gave numerous workshops in more than 30 countries, including Tunisia, Bahrain, UAE, Turkey, Kuwait, France, USA, Spain, Italy, Greece, Yemen, Jordan, and others in several languages. He also had more than 10 shadow puppetry exhibitions around the world, including in New York, Istanbul, Paris, Kuwait, Mauritania, and others. Additionally, Dr. Bahgat established a permanent corner for Egyptian shadow puppets in the Center for Puppetry Arts (Atlanta, Georgia, USA). Dr. Bahgat has more than 10 books, including the Egyptian Aragouz which is the first documentary on puppet theater published in both Arabic and English, as well as a recent book on Egyptian Shadow Puppetry where he studied the history, techniques, philosophy, and strategies of shadow puppetry since its establishment and until now. Dr. Bahgat has also established an annual festival on Egyptian shadow puppetry and Aragouz, which hosts a series of events including performances, interviews, workshops, seminars, and more.

Rhythms from around the Arab World
Participants can bring any drum they want to learn to play authentic rhythms from Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Iraq, and Yemen.
Sunday, OCT 9:
Arab Folk Dance
Participants will learn community dance styles from various Arab countries including Egypt, the Gulf, North Africa, and the Near East. All ages and levels are welcome.
